peak-a-boo!

i have been playing peak-a-boo with attie for as long as i can remember, and i'm sure everyone knows how the game usually goes... i cover my face (or sometimes her face) with my hand and when i move it away, i say "peak-a-boo!" well, today, i covered my face with a small handkerchief and instead of pulling it away myself, i waited until attie reached over and pulled it off to say "peak-a-boo." as soon as she pulled the little towel off, i put it back on my face and waited for her to pull it off again. she loves this game and was giggling the entire time. anyway, after a couple more rounds, attie decided to put the towel back on my face herself! she never did this before. i didn't have to take it from her and put it back on my face. it was so neat to see that she understood she had to cover my face with the little towel to continue playing the game.

so later today, i played peak-a-boo with her again in front of anselm to see if she would cover my face again (to show anselm her progress). this time, she impressed me even more by using the handkerchief to cover her own face! she held it up in front of herself and waited a few seconds before lifting it up higher to reveal her smiling face! it was so cute! i know it probably sounds really silly that i am so proud of her, but i think it's so amazing that she is learning to not only respond to our interactions, she's creating her own scenarios for us to react to as well.

some other stuff that she is doing lately:
- when i hold her, i ask her to point to where she wants to go, and she will raise her arm and point (usually just in whatever direction that we are facing)
- she knows how to give hugs on command, and sometimes waves
-she can do the high five (she doesn't really slap your hand, she just raises hers until she touches you and she holds it there)
- when i am trying to take her clothes off to change her, i will say "arms up" and she will lift both arms up and wait until i pull her shirt over her head
- another cool thing is that we taught her how to slide off the couch or bed by herself. she does this by going onto her tummy, turning around until her feet dangle off the edge, then she begins pushing against the couch with her arms and she slides until her toes touch the ground. maybe i'll find a video and post it one of these days.

anyway, i wonder what she's gonna do next :)
